CURIOSITIES
Why is rice thrown at weddings?
The origin derives from an ancient Chinese legend. Once China suffered a great famine; the good spirit had mercy of the farmers who suffered and decided to sacrifice all of his teeth, dispersing them in the swamp. Suddenly in the water budded thousand of small plants of rice: so since that that day we know that where is rice is abundance. Rice and other grains, such as wheat, have played a prominent role in marriage ceremonies for centuries, is that they are fraught with symbolism of fertility and of prosperity. By throwing rice at the bride and groom at a wedding, guests symbolically wish them a lifetime full of these blessings.
WHY DO WE WEAR THE WEDDING RING ON THE RING FINGER?
The meaning is in the name itself. The ring finger is finger taht will bear the ring one day in everybody's life. But why exactly the ring finger? There seems to be an anatomical reason.
In that finger, in fact, ends a small artery that going up through the arm, it reaches directly the heart. This circular jewel always bears the simbology of the marriage (ring: bond, union). Its elegance is in the extreme linearity.
It is in white or yellow gold, flat or rounded, usually without ornaments, friezes or stones. The only exception could be the names of the future consort and the date of the wedding engraved in the inner side....to avoid that with the years someone could forget to celebrate such an anniversary.
Wedding rings:
the couple will purchase them choosing together the model and the measure.
The most common wedding ring is the French one, tubular and from 3 to 16 grams of weight.
5 SUGARED ALMONDS
The number of the sugared almonds in sweet boxes or keepsakes should always be odd numbers. 5 for example, which is indivisible like the marriage should be. Sugared almonds should be considered special just like the event, therefore they have to be soft inside, with a full taste. Whole almonds are recommended.
5 because they symbolise the qualities that we all hope will have the couple: HEALTH, WEALTH, HAPPINESS, FERTILITY AND SPIRITUALITY.
FRIDAY: DAY FOR WEDDING
In Italy there is a famous proverb that says:
NE DI VENERE NE DI MARTE NON SI SPOSA E NON SI PARTE E NON SI DA INIZIO ALL'ARTE
(On Friday no one gets married, leaves for a place or starts art works)
In Norway, on the contrary, most weddings are celebrated on Fridays, a romantic day under the influence of Venus, the goddess of love and harmony
